A promising new approach to autoimmune diseases

Autoantibodies to self are produced in many diseases, but the discovery of which proteins they target has mostly so far been serendipity. Phage display connects proteins to their respective genes via bacteriophages:  Essentially all human proteins can be displayed in a library, and the antibody targets then identified  by sequencing the corresponding DNA of the protein identified. This has applications in diseases such as multiple sclerosis and many others.
