The microbiome has so far concentrated on bacteria: Now it's the turn of viruses , or in this case bacteriophages in human faecal samples. High throughput sequencing of the virome from volunteers put on high or low fat diets showed that the viromes stabilised to similar populations over 10 days for the same diet.

"There's no question that these viral populations are affecting human health,” says Frederic Bushman, a molecular virologist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
