Caused by a bite from an infected tick, Lyme disease has the early symptoms that are unpleasant but respond well to antibiotics. However, if diagnosis is delayed or mistaken, the illness can take a serious turn, leading to severe joint pain, brain infection and paralysis. Now Dr Richard Bingham at the University of Huddersfield is on the trail of an accurate test that will enable quick and accurate detection of Lyme disease.
