Concerning the relationships between genes, risk factors and immunity in Alzheimer's disease, Autism, Bipolar disorder , multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia and chronic fatigue
Robert Bransfield MD President of ILADS at PA Lyme disease hearing As a psychiatrist I often see the failures of our medical system, the most severe late stage symptoms of Lyme and associated diseases are neuropsychiatric and that is why I became involved with Lyme disease. The psychiatric consequences of inadequately tick-borne diseases include a number of severe and disabling mental illnesses, autism, developmental disabilities, dementia and violent behavior. There are some infectious disease physicians and others in the medical community who have minimal training in psychiatry and do not understand that most mental illness is physical injury that impairs brain functioning and many of the so called ―subjective and non-specific∥ symptoms of Lyme disease are objective with adequate testing and are symptoms of sickness syndrome associated with chronic infection.

Note Bransfield recognises the affects of infections not just Lyme Disease on patients with Psychiatric illnesses- this can lead to different treatment options.
