Acute injection of ASP in the third ventricle inhibits food intake and locomotor activity in rats.

ASP  (complement component 3) decreases food intake, and stimulates triglyceride synthesis and glucose transport via interaction with its receptor C5L2 (GPR77). This is an anaphylatoxin receptor : The anaphylatoxins, complement components  C3a, C4a and C5a are generated during the complement cascade that participate in host defense. In the case of inappropriate complement activation, anaphylatoxins may be involved in autoimmunity and sepsis. The complement cascade is generally activated by pathogens.
