This effect is related to the beneficial effects of commensal bacteria which are able to activate viral defence mechanisms. Killing the bacteria with antibiotics reduces the ability to fight the flu virus. Another instance of the importance of the microbiome.  Antibiotic misuse may also lead to development of resistant strains of bacteria.
