Schizophrenia and Vitamin D Related Genes Could Have Been Subject to Latitude-driven Adaptation.

This is a very nice study tying in latidude, vitamin D ( (whose synthesis depends on sunlight ), and genes in schizophrenia.

Vitamin D deficiency both pre-  and postnatally has been associated with schizophrenia, and many other conditons (see posts  and Pubmed feed )

Factors such as these no doubt account for the skewed geographical distribution of schizophrenia . The distribution map is from Wikipedia schizophrenia

They may also explain the clustering of positive and negative gene association data observed in schizophreia (and Alzheimer's disease ) See website
