The rubella virus (german measles) has been implicated in a number of diseases, including autism, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis: All of these are demyelinating conditions and this viral receptor (myelin ologodendrocyte glycoprotein) is expressed on the oligodendrocyte cell surface and on myelin sheaths.
