The plant sterol brassicasterol as additional CSF biomarker in Alzheimer's disease.

Brassica napus, Brassicaceae, Rapeseed, oilsee...Image via WikipediaLower CSF levels of the plant sterol brassicasterol were observed in Alzheimer's disease patients. Brassicasterol is a product of oilseed rape , a margarine ingredient, that contains omega-3 and omega-6 unsaturated fatty acids (the good ones also present in fish). High levels of polyunsaturated fats, or fish consumption,  have been associated with a lower incidence of Alzheimer's disease while saturated fats (e.g. from red meat) have been associated with high incidence.
