Alternative Agents No Safer Than Atypicals in the Elderly

Antipsychotics and sedatives are often used in nursing homes for the elderly. However their safety is in question and they can have serious adverse effects in older patients. While this is known  in research centres, it is probably much less appreciated in nursing homes far from these units,  and education of the psychogeriatric caring community is essential.
