Immune molecule regulates brain connections

The major histocompatibility complex MHC type I is involved in eliminating neuronal connections during late postnatal brain development.  
The immune system or prenatal infection are involved in several diseases including autism and schizophrenia, and this unsuspected secondary role of MHC molecules sheds new light on the relationships between the immune system and brain development.
