Loss of cholinergic neurones is one of the key pathological features of Alzheimer's disease: In this study hypercholesterolemia in rats caused memory impairment and in the brain,  cholinergic dysfunction, inflammation, changes in beta amyloid and tau and  microbleedings, closely resembling the pathology in Alzheimer's disease.
