Strange but true, and very important.  Faecal transplants have had a remarkable success in Clostridium difficile infection and in ulcerative colitis , a form or irritable bowel disease:  It's all about the right kind of bacterial flora in the gut, and the development of synthetic faeces containg appropriate species is being considered.
