Knockdown of Clock in the ventral tegmental area through RNA interference results in a mixed state of mania and depression-like behavior.

This is very interesting, showing that knockdown of a single gene , CLOCK , in the ventral tegmental area
produces something very like manic depression, or cycling bipolar disorder.
