Food-borne bacteria causes potentially fatal heart infection

Listeria monocytogenes is the culprit and is commonly found in soft cheeses and chilled ready-to-eat products. It does not always cause listeriosis or disease and only causes heart problems in some (genes and resistance ?)
This does however illustrate the importance of pathogens in disease - sometime more than risk factors and able to cause.
