The herpes simplex virus type 1 latency associated transcript (LAT) can protect neuronal derived C1300 and Neuro2A cells from Granzyme B apoptosis

During latency, herpes simplex appears to have cytoprotective properties, an adaptive feature that enables the virus to stay within infected cells. Harnessing this property may be useful in herpes related diseases, for example Alzheimer's disease.
